Hop Rhizomes

Hey guys, this is a fantastic resource! I have been directed here in search of hop rhizomes and understand MOB may be able to help. I am Toronto based and previous local supplies seem to have dried up. Now that I want to plant my own hops I am having trouble finding any in Canada. I am planning on buying from freshops.com but if there is anything local it would be preferable. Can you guys make any recommendations as to what grows well in these parts? I wanted to plant Willamette (as a fuggles substitute) Goldings, Cascade possible and Chinook for bittering. Actually does anyone have a line on Challenger hops?
One last question....When the vines reach 20 feet what is the best strategy to tell your wife "but honey, I really did'nt know they would get so big!"
Cheers and thanks.

Question on Priming

I am dabling in homebrewing. I am toying with the idea of priming with either maple syrup or honey (most likely maple syrup) and was looking for advice on just how much would be required for this purpose.
Also, any comments on adding this to the secondary would also be welcome.
I figure by adding for priming, I may be able to retain a lot of the flavour.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Source for heating element couplings??

Enjoyed seeing the electric powered boilers and wondered if anyone could advise where to get the coupling mounts for the electric heating elements? I'm thinking the elements take a straight pipe thread of 1" while most are npt.
I'm outside of Canada, but I've been to Winsor and Toronto.
Any help appreciated.

Hey everyone. This is my second effort at posting a note. The last one seemed to get lost in n-space.
Firstly, I think this web-club is great. Few people have time to meet regularly nor to brew regularly, so regular meetings dont really cut it.
Anyhoo - I am looking to find some sources of various varieties of hop vines. Anyone know any source of plants?? I recently read that given their connection to growing other (smokable) varieties of the hemp family that their access is limited. Zat true?

Hey Guy's,
I live in Brockville, and have been extract brewing for the past year and a half with great success. I am preparing myself to jump into all grain brewing, but I am having trouble finding suppliers for grains and equipment. I was leaning towards buying some Phil's all grain supplies (false bottom, mill and sparger) from listermann.com unless anyone else has a better idea for me.
Thanks

I have taken a great interest in craftbrewing as of late. Unfortunatley, I am not keen on brewing on my stove from a box - nor is my wife.
My interest stems from wanting to introduce low-energy, natural, sustainable sources of my life's staples. Ive made yogurt, Ive renovated a century home, I garden, I dont use pesticides, I compost -- I want to enjoy and understand the complexity and simplicity of this most basic staple.
Ive had good beer-results from a local on-premisis u-brew. But it has left me wanting. The proprietor -- not to his discredit -- is a trying to survive in the beer market replicating popular Beer Store brews (minus the taxes). Through my reading, Ive accumulated some knowledge (some true, some false im sure), but really lack the practical experience. I can tell from talking with my ubrew proprietor that he is directly opposite, his knowledge is limited to making the beer in the way he makes it. He has been unresponsive to my queries, and frankly, seems poorly informed.
I am trying to find some craftbrewers here in Windsor, Ontario. I have been able to garner an invitation from a SE Michigan group, but Im really interested in cultivating relationships within my community. Are there any craftbrewers in Windsor or Essex County?
Please email me.

Hi I'm an avid all-grain homebrewer located in Gatineau (close to Ottawa) and am wondering if there is the possibility of placing combined grain orders with other members in order to save on shipping costs.
Also, in some of the posts, there are references to Coop DB and other things which are only visible to full members. How do I become a full member?
I really like your website, good job!

Alright - so I'm VERY interested in making the leap to all-grain brewing, and I'm VERY interested in setting up an electric system, but I am neither an electrician nor an engineer!
Would anyone be interested in helping a newbee get started? Thanks!
